Jay was the founder of Home Marketing Solutions which co-created the HomeBuilder.com national new home listing site. Home Marketing Solutions merged with Homestore.com (recently renamed Move, Inc.) in 1999. Jay stayed with Homestore for four years creating two new divisions for the manufactured housing and home builder website sectors before he took over managing the new home channel.

He sold Tri-State Publishing to Primedia in January, 1996.
